Stansted Airport is the third largest airport in the U.K

. All one has to do is step inside the crowded main terminal to be convinced that this is one busy airport. But, if you think the lines at the ticket counters can be a nightmare, then try parking your car at the airport.

Not only are the parking charges expensive but, the mid and long term BAA parking lots are a good distance away. These lots are exactly the types of places that women travelling alone or in pairs would find uncomfortable to hike across or spend time alone in waiting for the shuttle, especially for those early morning or late night flights.

Not to mention if you are like most travellers you will spend half your trip wondering if your car is safe sitting in that distant parking lot. But what can you do? It isn't as though you have a lot of options.

Actually, there is one option you just might want to consider. There are hotels near the Stansted airport that offer you an alternative to airport parking. Some of these hotels are actually closer to the airport terminal than the mid and long term parking lots and what is really great about these hotels is some of them offer parking and a shuttle to the terminal for less than you would pay at the airport.

You are probably thinking that in order to take advantage of this parking that you will probably have to rent a room for the length of your trip. Not true. While you can certainly rent a room at one of these hotels the night before you flight and some even give you a day of free parking when you do rent a room, they also offer special park and fly options that aren't dependent on whether or not you stay in their motel.

Of course if you are catching an early flight and have to travel some distance to get to the airport in the first place you might just want to find a hotel on Stansted's doorstep so speak, since that would make getting to the airport for that 6am flight much more convenient. And under those conditions wouldn't it be nice to wake up, have a hot cuppa and then catch a shuttle in the hotel lobby that takes you right to the terminal door? Nothing could be more convenient.

You also have to admit you would feel much more relaxed and less worried leaving your car in a smaller hotel parking lot where maids and security guards were about day and night then in a big airport parking lot where security runs may be somewhat few and far between.

Air travel is certainly convenient and the hotels that offer park and fly options for you and your car certainly makes parking for those flights a lot more convenient as well.
