Stansted Airport Information

Decades ago, the old Stansted Airport was used as a USAAF bomber base

. It was only in 1986 that it was formally opened as a passenger airport. Now, it is home to about 41 major UK, Turkish and American airlines. With 22.8 million annual passengers and more than 160 destinations for over 30 countries worldwide, Stansted Airport is certainly one of the busiest passenger airports in the UK.

Located at Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex, the airport is 48km north-east of central London. Over the years, the continuous effort to modernise the airport enables it to provide tourists, families and travelling businessmen with excellent facilities and amenities.

As you arrive at the airport, you will notice that its information desk is placed next to the international arrivals area, which is open from 5:30am to 1:30am. For travelling business people, time is money and since time is important, the airport provides them with an exclusive facility where they can relax and get on with their business dealings. Its child-free lounges are open from 5:15am to 8:30pm every day.

Unisex toilets are located at the main concourse and at the departure lounge. Also, there are baby-care and nappy-changing facilities found throughout the building; two are found before the security points and one in the international arrivals area.

To keep the little ones entertained, the airport has its own amusement area, offering a range of arcade and computer game activities that will keep them from getting bored while waiting on their flight. Book stores and restaurants serving fast food are strategically located before and after the security points. These restaurants provide high chairs for everyone's dining pleasure.

There are also a variety of shops that you can visit within the airport. There are shops for souvenirs and gifts, food and drink, books and magazines, beauty and cosmetics, luggage and travel essentials, pharmacies, Duty Free and Bureau de Change for the passenger's last minute pickups and fixes.

Passengers with disabilities are also provided with special facilities such as induction loops, easy wheelchair access, arm rests on chairs and special cubicles in toilets. In addition, the airport offers special parking arrangements for disabled badge holders.
