If you really would like to better your skills at Starcraft 2 and reach diamond league status then there is hope. Actually to be perfectly honest it is easy to become a diamond player.
There may be some challenging players to face a long the way but what I found about reaching the diamond league is that players like to go for cheesy plays.
For example Terran players going for reaper rushing to harass your workers. Or maybe Zerg players going for zergling rushes. They love to rush with a 7 spawning pool which can be pretty annoying.
What you should learn though is how to counter such strategies. It can be as simple as guarding your mineral line. But you need to understand each race and what each unit is capable of.
Know your threats in every game and more importantly know how to handle them. This brings up a very important part of style.
That is scouting. Scouting is when you send over a unit to get information of what your opponent is doing whether it is going for an army drop or some kind of rush.
I find it important to scout as early as 10 supply by sending a worker to locate your opponent if it is on that kind of map that is random.
But also to see what they are doing. Make sure there is nothing cheesy going on like a proxy base or production buildings.
Seeing an early expansion will definitely help you out as well. Zerg players love going for this strategy to have the economical edge in the game which is what you always are striving for.
