Stay Safe Around Your Gas Bbqs This Summer
With the sun attempting to make its way out, people will be racing outside to light
their gas BBQs and start grilling amazing smelling and tasting of course burgers and sausages which will have the whole neighbourhood racing round for a bite. They might even light their own and before you know it the whole area smells of barbecued food possibly the best smell ever, (along with cut crass you must agree?)
There are some great meals that can be created on gas BBQs. Obviously you have the good old traditional favourites sausages and burgers and all their fancy siblings with different kinds of herbs and spices included, and while some of them are very nice indeed theres just nothing like the traditional versions. Then there are kebabs, various forms of chicken and sides like corn on the cob is mine the only mouth watering?
But before we get too excited and go and press the ignition button the grill, there are a number of safety precautions that need taking note of. Too many people suffer injuries around barbecues because they take more notice of their friends and family in the garden and lose sight of whats going on in front of them on their barbecues.
Here are a list of safety precautions you should take every time you light your gas BBQ:
You should have something around that will instantly put the fire out if it gets out of control, such as a fire extinguisher. Check the label before picking any old canister up, however, as you want one specifically designed to put out gas-related fires. If it does get out of control, you need to look for a method of switching off the gas supply so make sure you know how to disconnect it before you light it. Should you have more problems than you can deal with, contact the fire brigade immediately.
Keep your gas BBQs well away from the house and other garden structures, particularly any with open windows. The summer breeze drifting through the house might be lovely for those inside, but all it takes is for an ember from the grill to catch on a flapping curtain then you could end up with a fire breaking out inside the home. Either keep your grill well away from any buildings or structures, or keep windows closed.
Check your gas supply regularly to ensure that there are no leaks in the pipes. Obstructions can make their way between the fuel and the flames in areas underneath or behind the grill such as leaves for instance and these can catch fire if they find their way into the wrong place. If rust gathers on your pipes it can cause the seals to wear away and youll be left with leaking gas around fire not a good combination. Perform regular maintenance checks on your gas supply and youll avoid any potential disasters.
