You are tired of being a smoker. You are tired of having the nasty habit in your life and you cannot wait until you are able to turn down an offer for a cigarette and tell the person making the offer that you do not smoke. The only problem is that you are intimidated by the prospect of trying to quit due to the fact that every story you have heard about someone trying to quit usually ends with that person picking up the habit after a stressful day. Despite your best wishes, you are simply worried about keeping yourself motivated and confident about quitting. Well, you no longer need to worry, because here are some tips and tricks that should help you be able to get on the right track to a smoke free life.
The first thing you need to do is go around your car and your vehicle (or vehicles) and find all of your cigarette packs, ash trays, lighters, tobacco, rolling papers, or anything else that you may use to smoke, and then throw them all in the trash. Not only should you throw them in the trash, but you should be sure to put more trash on top of them. Make yourself not want to fish them out. This way, you can cut yourself off from your habit.
The next thing you need to do is be sure that you have some friends and family members that you can go to for support. Preferably, have a friend or family member that either does not smoke, or has already managed to quit smoking. If you use a person who still smokes, you may become tempted to smoke around them, and that would not be very good for your progress. That brings us to the next point. You should politely ask any friends or family members that do smoke to not smoke around you, as it will only bring on cravings for cigarettes.
The next thing you need to do is write down every time you have an intense nicotine craving. This way you have a frame of reference for every time your cravings get bad so that you can more easily resist them. It is important to take any time that you have a craving and then simply do something besides smoking. Preferably, take that small frame of time to accomplish a menial task, such as doing a crossword puzzle (which has been known to help some).
