Staying Plugged-In and Not Burned Out

The biggest problem with being a work from home professional is those days when you reach that point that says "I want to go to a job, and do my work and go home. I want to avoid worrying about where my next lead is coming from, and I don't want to worry if I will ever make another penny from what I do." Some of us who have been business owners for decades can tell you that it is going to happen to everyone and the longer you are in business the more times it will happen.

What can someone do to get past that point, because if you don't you just won't. Normally what causes this is getting overwhelmed by the day-to-day challenges of life and business. How do you get past that point? Below I have list the 6 methods that I have used in my 40 years as a business owner.

1. Build a support team of individuals in your industry.

Many times new business owners or direct marketers rely on their up-line of individuals for support. That is great to a degree but what you really need to do is pick out 10-12 people who are peers in your business who maybe facing the same challenges as you. Talk to people that are feeling, have felt or will feel what you are feeling right this moment. Talk to people who can sympathize not just empathize, the type of person will push you past the fear of being overwhelmed.

2. Pick a spot and dig in so you can dig out.

It seems like lately that these moments hit me the most when I sit down at my desk and it looks like I have been shuffling paperwork back and forth for days and all that is happening is that it is getting deeper. This article is a great example, I wanted to write an article 5 days ago and I just kept putting it in the to-do list back in the stack. This morning I piled everything up and started at the top and worked my way down. It only took about 30 minutes to complete things that I have been putting off for weeks. Now I am ready to take on the world.

3. Stop and think, "What is the worst thing that can happen if I just keep pushing on."

Fear is an amazing thing. It causes us to accept complete failure as opposed to trying to go forward to a better situation. If you just quit you will have failed. If you don't try you can't succeed. If you give up you have lost. But if you try you may triumph. If you try you may succeed. If you go on you may win. And the worst thing that can happen is you are right where you would have been if you hadn't tried. So what have you got to lose? Go ahead try and move that mountain!!

4. Get fresh air into your system.

Sometimes all we do is go to work, eat, sleep and watch TV. And people wonder why they are not motivated. I could go into all the medical reasons why our bodies and minds need sunshine but the bottom line is that is just the way it is. Our minds need to escape those prisons that we put our bodies into trying to get what we think we want. Each one of us has a place where we go in our minds to escape pressure. How many people do you suppose go to their desk in their mind at times like that and how many in their mind go to the beach and watch the water roll in.

5. Our bodies may not be a machine but they need to move.

I thought I might try to figure out how any different moving parts our body has and that each of these moving parts needs to be moved each and every day. Well, I got overwhelmed trying to count that high so I just got up and went for a walk. Now most people may not be as blessed as my wife and me with a 7 acre yard to walk around but everyone has somewhere they can get up and walk to several times a day. Get up and move, put it into your schedule, make sure you do it. It is just like eating you have to get exercise of some kind.

6. Last but not least, be thankful because you are doing something that 95% of the population will never do.

I think about politicians at times and how they are criticized by so many, and yet so few will run for office. In the back of their mind people think that they could do a better job, (and maybe they could) but they never get out of the stands and join the game. Congratulate yourself because you have joined the game. You really do control your destiny. Not the economy, not the weather or the number of hours in a day. You and only you control where you are going.
