Staying Smart About Your Pc By Avoiding Smart Security

Security warnings, pop-ups, sluggish computer operation: there is something going on with your computer

, but what? One of the pop-ups tells you that you have several security threats and should install their protection immediately. Before you do, find out what is really going on with your computer. It is likely that you have a rogue antivirus program in your system.

What is Smart Security?

Smart Security is a rogue antivirus program designed solely to convince computer users of two things: that they have several security issues in their systems and that Smart Security can resolve them quickly and easily as soon as you purchase and install the full version. The second assertion is false: Smart Security cannot protect your computer from security threats. The first is partly true: you do have an issue that might affect your computers security and/or performance. The problem, though, is Smart Security.

Smart Security is a relatively new rogue antivirus program, and it comes from the same family as Security Tool. You may also see it written as SmartSecurity.

How Does Smart Security Access Your Computer?

When computer users visit affected sites, which often, but not always, include adult, gaming, or warez material, a Trojan can enter your system. Trojans can carry various forms of malware into your computer, including Smart Security. This is how the free or demo version of the rogue program becomes downloaded onto your computer.

Smart Security issues constant pop-ups and false security scan results, and often computer users act out of an urgent need to protect their systems. This is a completely understandable reaction in the face of these constant warnings or redirects to rogue websites offering Smart Securitys protection, but the rogue program does not offer any protection. In fact, the only difference you will notice between the paid version and a free demo version is the money you have spent. Smart Security wont keep your computer safe from future security threats, and it will not resolve the issues that it causes.

What exactly are these issues, and if you havent installed Smart Security yourself, how can you recognize the signs that it is in your system?

Signs that Smart Security Has Been Downloaded

If you have not directly installed Smart Security, it is important to recognize the signs that a rogue antivirus program has entered your system. This can help you take action to remove Smart Security before it creates vulnerabilities in your program.

Most typically of this and other rogue antivirus programs is the sudden influx of pop-ups you will notice. Each time you boot up your computer, Smart Security launches into a false scan. It then generates a results window, which lists a host of files that it claims are corrupt. In the top left corner, you will notice the Smart Security name, accompanied by a slogan reading, Protect your pc. A scan appears to be in progress, and you are given several options, including Protection, Update, and Get Full Protection with Security Tool. Clicking on any of these will redirect you to a rogue website urging you to buy Smart Security.

Smart Security also generates pop-up alerts, indicating that there is a threat to your computer that needs immediate attention. The goal for the rogue program is to try to urge you into a rash decision before you consider the ad too carefully. Here are two typical ones you may see:

Smart Security Warning

Spyware.IEMonster activity detected. This is spyware that attempts to steal passwords from Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Outlook and other programs. Click here to remove it immediately with SecurityTool.

Smart Security Warning

Some critical system files of your computer were modified by a malicious program. It may cause system instability and data loss. Click here to block unauthorised modification by removing threats (Recommended).

These ads are specifically designed to evoke a rushed response, especially when they mention loss of data, instability, and password stealing. It is important to know that these are false warnings. Smart Security cannot scan your computer, and these threats are fabricated. You may also see flashing icons in your system tray or on your desktop. Clicking on these will cause one of the warning messages to pop-up or will direct you to a rogue website.

As many rogue antivirus programs do, Smart Security is able to change your browser settings. You may find that your homepage has been replaced by a rogue website selling Smart Security. Even if you change your settings, it is likely to come back as your home page after you reboot. The program can also redirect you when you try to navigate to sites. Again, youll be directed to a site offering you the protection of Smart Security.

In addition to these issues, your computer will start running much more slowly than usual. Smart Security launches itself automatically whenever you boot up and remains running in the background, which diverts resources away from your programs and makes even simple tasks much slower.

If left in your system indefinitely, Smart Security can take advantage of vulnerabilities in your computer that will open the door to other forms of malware. To prevent this and return your computer to proper functioning, remove Smart Security as soon as possible.
