Steps On How To Use An Oximeter
An oximeter has shown its benefits and advantages to the medical community. People have realized what they could get out of it that's why a lot are investing in one. If you just recently bought an oximeter, you should already know how to use it. If not, it's not only a waste of money, but a waste of opportunity to know your oxygen saturation level. It is relatively easy to use; here are some of the basic pointers to help you.
The first step is to determine where you will place the probe on the body. The most common places are the fingernails and the earlobe. These are the best places because they are translucent parts of the body. However, if you decide to place it on the fingernail, make sure that there is no nail polish. The pulse oximeter will not work properly and you might get a different reading if something is blocking the nail. If you don't want to remove it, then you can use the earlobe. Just make sure that it is not pierced with an earing and it's clean. From the location of the device, you'll know what type to use. A probe for a fingernail is different from that of an earlobe probe.
After determining the location, you simply have to turn it on. Nearly all portable versions have a switch or button that you can easily flip or press. Just wait for the machine to load and run a series of checks. Calibrating it would only take a few seconds.
Place the pulse oximeter after a few seconds. It is important that you remain still while the machine is getting a reading. Unforced movement will disrupt the number that will appear on the screen.
Within seconds, you'll be able to know the oxygen levels in your body as indicated by the oximeter. A normal person would have a reading in the high 90's.
