Stieg Larsson: Dead At Fifty and Successful Afterwards
Those who are new to the phenomenon created by Stieg Larsson
, need to know some facts about the Swedish journalist first. He was the editor of a magazine called Expo its mission was exposing right wing extremists in his country. Whenever he got spare time, he was working on a trilogy all through all of which were crime thrillers. The manuscripts were delivered to the publishers in 2004 itself. Just a few months before the first novel in the series came out, Stieg Larsson died due to heart attack.
All Skills Are Needed To Get Past the Villains
He was only fifty years old, and he never savored the success of his own books first in his own country and then all over the world. His books have already sold more than a million copies in US itself and much more than that across the world. The books have two central characters, a middle aged journalist who is as fearless as it gets, and publishes a magazine named Millennium (just like Expo). The female protagonist is Lisbeth Salander, who is a computer whiz, and she is the girl' in the trilogy titles. Both of them (Mikael and Lisbeth) use all their skills to get past the corrupt and complicated personalities they come across (the extremists).
The Author Lives In a Dark World
Stieg Larsson lives in just a dark world where everyone is humorless all the characters work into the night and have a lot of coffee, that too frequently. But if you conclude this world is all about pessimism, think again, because the moral heavyweights (slightly too much) always win in the end. The books have been translated by Reg Keeland, and they (the translated books, due to the number of pages) are also on the heavier side.
You Also Need To Do Your Homework
The first book in the series was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in which Mikael Blomkvist has been hired to investigate the disappearance of a relative of Henrik Vanger. He has also ordered the background check of the hero through Lisbeth Salander, and the hero only learns of it (about the heroine) half way into the novel. Before you ask about it, yes they do indulge in casual sex at times as the story progresses. Each of the sequels start the story where it was left in the previous book, so readers need to be well versed with the story before they start the next book.
(Slightly) Over the Top Second Book
The second book in the series, however, is slightly over the top since the main villains (of the first book) are out of the picture and Stieg Larsson has to depend on his (other) inventions to keep the novel interesting. But it's still readable due to coincidences (far-fetched) and other interesting elements of the story.
