Stock Trading Pt1
Daily Stock Report for Monday Morning, November 30
, 2009 pt1
The US stock market opened down 1.5% after being down close to 3% during premarket hours on Thursday night on the news that Dubai may default on debt payments.
There was substantial buying that kicked in the first 15 minutes that lasted for the first hour and erased most of the losses at one point but toward the last hour of the short session, stocks settled mostly toward the low of the Friday session.
The Asian markets took the big losses of up to 4.8% and other global markets lost as high as 9% for the Russian market. After the analysts gave their assessments of what a Dubai default could mean, US stocks started rallying from the overblown reaction.
Markets or individual stocks dont react to the same news twice to the same degree and the Dubai news is a version to a lesser extent we saw a year ago that threatened to take down the financial system in late 2008.
But it has been a year since then and the market has moved up over 60% in the last 8 months so there is nervousness as to when and how much the market may pull back. We are starting to see some troubling signs of weakness in the small cap stocks.
