I believe if you take time and talk with your child from the young age of two years old, they will listen. Kids love their parents as early as from when they come out of the womb. They call for mommy and daddy when they want something to eat or if they fall and get hurt. Talk to them at this young age and they will listen. Let them know what's right, but also let them know what's wrong.

Give them that little understanding of the real world when they are little, then fill them in more as they get older then the awkward conversations when they are tweens and teens would be avoided. Talk and love your kids when they can absorb it the most, the older they get the worst it will be for you to try and sit down with them and talk about personal things when their older.

If you talk to them while they are young they won't think you are invading their space when they are teens. Ask your kids about their day trust me they want to tell you when they are little and as they get older it comes natural to have a discussion with you. Let your kids ask you questions and answer them truly don't let them follow in the mistakes you made because you told them a lie about something you did in the past that could be avoided for them in the future.

When you communicating with your children it is best to listen to them with open ears.Make sure you repeat what you understood from what they said to you .This habit not only lets your young child feel special and cared for it keeps you in the loop about understanding them.
