Stop Smoking With Nicotine Chewing Gum
Around 15 billion cigarettes are sold around the world every single day
, which equates to about 10 million every minute. Why is this number so high? Some people say that smoking makes them feel more confident. Some people also say that smoking clears their mind and helps them think. These reasons are far outweighed by the health risks though. Most people who smoke want to stop and may even have tried to do so several times in the past. It is easier said than done though.
Nicotine is addictive, and those who try to stop typically experience temporary, but very annoying, side effects which affect their daily lives. Commonly, nicotine withdrawal can cause headaches, irritability, difficulty concentrating and possible depression. That is why smokers reach for help in the form of nicotine-laced gum, which has been around seen 1984. It is now the most popular quit smoking aid.
Recently, it has become even easier to try this popular supplement as it is now available over-the-counter. Doctors say that smokers should use it for 3 months in order to end their addiction. After that time, you should speak with your physician if you still feel the need to smoke. Unfortunately, some smokers find themselves becoming addicted to the nicotine gum. In a sense, people kick one habit and trade it for another.
You may ask - "Is that bad?" Sure, a nicotine habit is bad - just like an addiction to caffeine or candy is bad, but what is worse - smoking or nicotine-laced gum? The answer is the smoking. Remember that is not actually the nicotine in cigarettes that causes all of the health problems associated with smoking. It is the thousands of chemicals that cigarette manufacturers add to their products which are the problem, none of which are found in nicotine gum.
Nicotine gum always gives your body nicotine in a more sensible way, as the levels of the stimulant are lower, and it slow enters your body over an hour or so, rather than just 5 minutes. That is not to say that nicotine gum is totally safe and an easy solution. Any addiction is bad, and breaking an addiction to nicotine gum will be as hard as breaking an addiction to cigarettes.
This specialized gum is not cheap either. You can expect to be paying upwards of $5 for one pack of nicotine gum, and you get addicted to it then you may find yourself buying a couple of packs of it a day. It is a step in the right direction though, so first deal with quitting cigarettes, and then deal with quitting nicotine gum at a later date. Hopefully though, the gum addiction will not even arise - for most people it does not.
