I can remember way back when I had a very serious long-term relationship that was headed for disaster. We had grown apart and I tried very hard for very long to keep her in my life. That's when finally I gave up...I figured I might as well get on with my life or live a miserable one that's going nowhere and FAST.

What happened next blew my mind! I stopped my pathetic begging and just told her I accepted what was going on and I hoped she would be happy and have a great life and let's go our separate ways. I assumed that's just what she wanted...I was wrong! Suddenly I'm the bad guy who wants to end this relationship and she's the one desperately begging to fix it!
