Stopping Your Partner From Filing For Divorce - Is It The Right Choice?
Divorce is really not uncommon in todays society
. Statistics say about 50% of first marriages end in divorce, for second and third marriages the numbers are much higher. Of course this doesn't mean you should just give in to your "destiny" because "I'd be in good company". There is nothing nobler than trying to keep up the holy bond of matrimony. If you are trying to change your husband's mind about filing for divorce, let this article give you some starter points.
Don't break off communication, no matter what
Once you two are no longer talking every little thing can and will be misinterpreted by the other one and things start to go downhill rapidly. Open communication is very, very hard in this situation but you have to know his reasons to start working on it.
Show him you care
Feeling unappreciated is one of the biggest reasons for divorce. Have you been talking at breakfast or has every one been reading his newspaper in silence? Ask him what his plans at work are going to be today, what his day was like when he comes home and let him vent a little about his troubles. Start doing small things together, maybe groceries shopping and show him you appreciate your time together.
Try spending time away from each other
If he already told you about divorce, maybe he needs a little time away from you, to realize that he really cares about you. You might panic at the thought of him sleeping somewhere else but an agreement of seperating for a month or so might clear his mind and stops him from making rash decisions he might later regret. If he is the one who proposes the break, don't panic, you might have some issues your own you have to work on and that's the perfect time.
The infamous relationship counsil
Consider professional help if you are suffering from issues you just can't work through on your own. It is easier to speak freely in front of a third person even if it sounds counterintuitive. Work through your emotions with someone mediating and it will help both of you processing your feelings.
Divorce doesn't have to be the only option. If you as a couple are able to work through your differences your relationship will get a lot stronger. Stopping your partner from filing for divorce is possible but might not always be the right choice. Maybe you two just grew in different directions and have different goals in life. Don't make this relationship your only hope for happiness. Think for yourself if this bond needs to be saved or if it should be cut loose. But if you're sure you want it, give it all you've got.
