Storing Your Cigar Lighter Properly

While that Lotus lighter is an essential part of your smoking accessories and enjoyment

, you will not need it all the time. Knowing how to store your cigar lighter when not in use is an important part of being a responsible smoker. Numerous accidents happen every year due to improper lighter storage and you will find that these accidents could have easily been avoided completely. What can you do to help ensure that you are able to store your lighter safely and avoid the potential accidents that come with these devices?

Watch the Heat: Even if you have a quality Lotus lighter, it is important to store your lighter out of the heat. For instance, if you smoke outdoors, it can be simple to just leave your smoking accessories in that area. However, direct sunlight can quickly heat up a lighter to tremendous temperatures. At some point, the fuel within the lighter will ignite, causing the lighter to catch fire or even explode. The same principle applies to leaving your lighter in your vehicle. During warmer months, the interior of a vehicle can quickly reach several hundred degrees. Do not leave your lighter here.

Watch the Moisture: Whether you have a high end torch lighter or some other, less expensive brand, moisture is your enemy and should be avoided.. With flint lighter models, you will get no spark once the flint has become wet. In addition, if you have an electronic spark system, moisture can actually short out the system or cause corrosion. Of course, moisture can also cause rust on any metal components, and can seep down inside the lighter case, causing problems (usually on insert models). Therefore, you should avoid getting your lighter wet at all costs. If it does get wet, take the lighter apart as far as possible and dry each piece thoroughly.

Dust and Debris: Many smokers carry their lighters in their pocket or in their tobacco kits (where they keep their pouch or cigar cases). However, these solutions can be problematic, as well. If you keep your Lotus lighter in such a place, you will need to ensure that lint, dust, dirt and stray tobacco pieces do not block the striker action or the burner. The best option is to keep your lighter at home, out of reach of children and to clean it periodically to ensure proper operation and continued use of this necessary tool.
