. One way a company can map is by using the six sigma method is through SIPOC (Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Output and Customers chart that can easily be explained by using a car dealership.

Auto parts distributors are simply parts Suppliers to dealers, who in turn supply parts to car owners if they don't have the parts for vehicle repairs. The car as well as the physical parts are defined as the Inputs and without these two components there would be no need for supply. The Process generally is considered to take the longest and involves repairing the vehicle. This is also when the customer's satisfaction can be commercialized and the company's profit margin can be calculated.

The SIPOC method of the six sigma model works well for an automotive example as it easily maps not only exactly what is happening, but when it is happening. There are other models of mapping manufacturers use but the SIPOC method is simple, clear and straightforward.
