Strangest Road Signs In Canada

Road signs are commonplace in any region that you drive in

. They are meant to guide drivers and inform them about the rules of the road. While most signs are straightforward and make sense to all drivers, sometimes we see signs on the road that have us scratching our heads.

When driving down the road you expect to fully understand what the sign is trying to inform you about. But every now and then we come across signs that dont make sense and are actually strange when you think about them.

Canada is a unique country in the sense that there are so many geographically diverse locations across the country. As a result, there are many custom and specific road signs that are created just for these regions. If you dont live in one of these regions, these signs seem out of sorts and sometimes just silly.

Water may flow on the road: This sign has an image of a road that has water flowing over top. If you are not familiar with this area this sign is a strange sight that is definitely not self-explanatory.


No littering: This sign is definitely a head shaker. It is an image of an open can that is crossed out. While this is meant to denote no littering, simply writing No Littering would be a much once effective sign.

Route for dangerous goods vehicles: This is an odd sign that most people probably have never seen before and if they did would not know what it means. The sign has a green circle with a black diamond shape in the middle. The image is so ambiguous that it is difficult to understand what it actually means. And, what are dangerous good vehicles anyway?

Dangerous goods vehicles prohibited: This sign is the exact opposite of the previous sign. It is a red circle that crosses out an image of a black diamond shape. The ambiguous shape is difficult to comprehend. This sign begs the question, just how many dangerous good vehicles are out there at warrant these signs being created in the first place?


Deer/Moose signs: Deer signs are strange in the sense that the image seems to change all the time. Sometimes the deer is on its hind legs, other times it looks as though it is walking, and other times the signs have a Deer or Moose that looking like it is aggressively charging. Are these variations meant to signify the mood of the animals in the area? And, depending on where you are in the country, you may even see a sign that has an image of a moose and a crumpled car.

These are only a few of the strangest road signs that you will see during your travels in Canada. When you see a strange sign you will know it, most likely because you will not know what it means. So, when you see them, slow down a little and be extra cautious, especially if you are not sure what the sign means.
