Here it is. Keep an eye out for used breakers when shopping for parts. In the electrical industry, this often means that buying a used one is the only solution.

Here's a great example of a used breaker that can save you a lot of money over a new one.

The price is almost always right on them; usually thirty to fifty percent less than the cost of a new one. The full process is recorded in a log book and the breakers are certified as reconditioned and shipped out.

Many of them have warehouses all over the country and will ship your parts straight from the closest warehouse to you. For factories or electricians buying large quantities, these savings can add up quickly. They can save you and your business thousands of dollars and give your customers a lower price on their repairs.

It wasn't long ago that when a customer needed a new breaker I simply called the local supplier, ordered the one I needed, waited two weeks, and then installed the breaker.

My natural assumption to this would be that a used breaker would not have the life span of a new one, and it would seem like a false economy to buy one, but I didn't realise what companies had to do with the used breakers to make sure that they were good enough for sale.

Used breakers are as good as new ones! Of course, you are going to be able to tell by the naked eye that they are not brand new, but all used breakers for sale must go through such a rigorous process to be suitable for sale that you end up with a perfect product. For electricians bidding on jobs, having access to used breakers can give them the competitive edge on other bidders and increase the number of contracts they win, instantly leading to a more profitable business.

The factory would always buy new breakers when one was needed, and why would you buy anything else? If you don't know where savings can be made, anybody would assume that a new breaker is the only thing you can buy to replace one that is not working properly.

These reconditioned used breakers go through a strict reconditioning process that makes sure the breakers operate properly and will last as long as a new one. In my line of work as an electrical engineer I run into all sorts of breaker problems, and in addition to having to perform repairs, I also have to purchase the replacement breakers.

Believe it or not, when all of this is complete, the used breakers have a warranty on them that is the same as a warranty for a new breaker!

Most of these suppliers have been supplying the construction industry for years but are finally opening up their inventory to end users. In the past 10 years, several national suppliers have moved online and now offer new and used breakers at great prices. The customer was sometime literally left in the dark for a couple of weeks AND they paid full retail price for the breaker. This was certainly the case for us, until somebody discovered that you could in actual fact buy used breakers which were in working condition for much less money. For most used breakers you are probably looking at paying half the price that you would for a brand new one. Many stores have started offering a full one year warranty - the same warranty that comes with new breakers.

I've bought from many suppliers and usually get my breakers in two to three days.

During the current economic downturn, however, customers are looking to save money which means paying full list price for a breaker is often not an option.
