Stress Anxiety Management - Stress and Worry

What is anxiety? Anxiety is an unpleasant state of mental uneasiness or concern about some uncertain event. It is an emotion that you feel when under threat as your sympathetic nervous system kicks in to prepare for danger. Anxiety is a vicious circle of thoughts, sensations, and behaviors. The origins of an anxious mood lie in your thoughts, some of which you may not even be aware of. These thoughts lead to reactions in the body, causing physical sensations and affecting your behavior. But the real question is this: What can you do for stress anxiety management?

The first step is perhaps to accept life for what it is and to be grateful. Learn how to appreciate even the smallest things you have and to see the beauty in the simplest things. Be grateful for what you have and be contented. This way, stresses related to wanting more from life will be eliminated. Moreover, feelings like jealousy and envy, which can also cause stress, can be eradicated from your life.

But apart from trying to be happy, you can also perform some techniques that are used in psychiatry in order to manage your stress. Examples of these include biofeedback, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided imagery. Through biofeedback, one person is able to achieve relaxation by modifying the body's reactions through the use of monitoring equipment that provides information from the body. This feedback is then used to identify the processes that achieve the desired result like decreased heart rate or lowered blood pressure.

In contrast, progressive muscle relaxation focuses on a two-step process that systematically tense and relax different muscle groups in the body. Finally, guided imagery is the use of pleasant or relaxing images to calm the mind and the body. By controlling breathing and visualizing a soothing image, a state of deep relaxation can occur.

These are just examples of stress anxiety management techniques.
