Stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. It can come from any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or anxious. Stress affects all students, from kindergarten to those in graduate school. Taken in the right dose, stress can provides a burst of energy, a boost to your immune system and allows you to accomplish more. On the other hand, excessive amount of stress can an impair your immune system. It can affect students health, happiness, relationship and personal development.

Causes Of Stress In Student

The most common causes of stress in school children include; not in the same class as friends, noise pollution, lack of family time, unfamiliar school environment, over scheduling of extra curricular activities, insufficient sleep, poor diet, school bullies, among others.

As the student progress to a different level the causes of stress often increases. Student in college or university often have to contend with leaving their parents and beginning finding their own identity as young adult and their own place in the world. Common causes for them are things like exams, peer pressure, time management, parental pressure etc.

Techniques to manage stress for students

Manage your time wisely. Create study schedule, make a list of things you need to do. Break up big projects into smaller chunks. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask your parents or teachers to help you formulate study time table for school and adhere to them.

Create a good study environment. Students have different study habits. Some may need a completely quite room to study, other can study in any place available. Have a system of organization for for note-taking, keeping track of assignments and other important papers.

Know your learning style. Are you a visual, kinesthetic or auditory learner. Tailor your study practices around your learning style can make learning fun and keep stress at bay.

Learn some relaxation techniques to manage your stress level. Techniques like deep breathing, visualization or imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation and yoga have been know to help in dealing with stress. If you are the "Glass half empty" type of person. Try to be a little optimistic.

Take good care of yourself. Get proper nutrition and some form of physical exercise. Get enough sleep is important as well. if you want optimum body and brain function, you need at least seven hour of sleep each night.
