When the skin is overstretched, these fibers tear apart, causing blood to seep through, which is why newly formed stretch marks are colored red.

Stretch marks are often associated with pregnancy. It is common among women but it doesn't mean that men and those who are not pregnant won't have it. Men and women can also have stretch marks. There are a lot of other causes for stretch marks and not just pregnancy.

As time goes, these stretch marks will fade into white or silver, making it much lighter than the normal skin color. When the stretch marks are old or when they are already white or silver in appearance, they are much more difficult to get rid of.

There are a lot of methods to get rid of stretch marks but these methods are more effective on new stretch marks than old ones. This is because old stretch marks have been replaced by scar tissues that are different compared to the normal skin tissues.

Cosmetic methods such as microdermabrasion, chemical peeling, and laser surgery are some of the popular methods to improve the appearance of stretch marks. However, these methods are all expensive and may require more than one session before results can be seen. Aside from that, the effectiveness of these methods would vary depending on the skin type, age, and lifestyle.

For those who do not want to spend a lot of money in such procedures, there are methods such as applying creams for stretch marks. There are a lot of available stretch mark creams in the market to choose from. Make sure that when you choose a cream for stretch mark, it should be effective and doesn't cause any side effects. However, you should also know that there are no creams that will work overnight. It will take a few weeks to months before you can see the difference; hence, it is very important to choose an effective and reliable stretch mark cream.
