Student Life in College: Building Relations with Your Roommate
College provides its students with brilliant experiences of social interaction
, which helps people make success in their lives. Apart from classes, college activities and parties you spend quite a lot of time in your room while studying in college. And this is the first experience of building appropriate relations with others, in this case roommate. Why is it important to build normal relations with your college roommate? This person is, literally, the closest one during your (at least) first year. Maybe, Not Friends, but Definitely Not Enemies. The perfect way is to become good friends with your roommate. You can help each other with study, and it is much more pleasant to live with your best friend in the same room, than to stand somebody in your room. First rule: be patient and polite. The best way to build up normal relations is to discuss everything from the very first days. You can even establish some rules if your roommate does not mind. Discuss whether your roommate has some particular needs (he/she may be allergic to something); discuss visiting hours (when other students or friends can come to the room) and rest hours (when no one is desirable), etc. The second very important point: remember this is not your room; you share the room with your roommate. Thus, you are equal. Remember: you must not do anything that can annoy or upset your roommate, if you do not want to experience some unpleasant moments yourself. For example, if your roommate pays a lot of attention to order, keep your place in order as well. Outer Life In terms of interrelations with your roommate, it is also important to keep your relations to two of you. Do not discuss any negative or juicy events or characteristics of your roommate with other students. If you do not have close relations try to say as little about your roommate as possible. Your room is a little world which is to be shared between two only.
