It is generally known that all subcultures have their own social signs: slang

, values, norms, persuasions, ceremonies, consuetude, traditions, beliefs, superstitions. The modern analysis proves that student subculture has been formed many years ago. Student subcultures of different states have similar traits. The Linguistic Peculiarities of Student Society. Beginning with the linguistic aspect of the student subculture it should be noted that the student language has some peculiar features: it contains slang which is the lexicon of a student routine, offensive words and professional lexicon which is connected with the specialization of some group of students. Students do not choose the appropriate words in common communication. It seems to them that the straighter they will say the cooler they will sound. The usage of periphrastic and euphemistic construction is the sign of another group, of adults. The System of Values of Student Subculture. If to speak about values of the contemporary student society we should mention that the most important values for them are friendship, health, love. These are the leaders in the list of values. Besides, students value such notions as family, wealth, education and job. What personal characteristics do they appreciate? They are benevolence, kindness and commutability. Why do they choose these traits of character? Perhaps it happens because students need mutual help and support. A Sense of Humor as a Method of Protection . Another specific feature of the student subculture is the sense of humor. Sometimes it is witty, sometimes it is rather cruel and brutal. But on the whole it is the manner of protection. But sometimes the student humor is the sign of loneliness. Students hide their problems away from everybody. They are afraid that someone will guess one day about their pain and secrets. Nevertheless, the subculture is a complicated phenomenon.
