Students' Unions: To Ban or Not to Ban Such Activities
Nowadays many debates are devoted to the idea of banning different students' unions, and each country has a number of reasons to present for and against the development of such organizations. Country's culture and traditions influence considerably the ways of how colleges and universities educate students. This is why the attitude to the idea of students' unions undergoes a considerable amount of doubts, and in this article, we will make an attempt to define reasons of such debates.
First, it is necessary to underline the fact that in some colleges and universities, the membership in students' unions is compulsory and, what is more important, not free. Annually, the member of a union has to pay special fee and prove his/her right to become a member of the chosen organization. However, such membership may become rather beneficial for students due to the possibility to:
1.visit interesting meetings;
2.demonstrate personal demands, interests, and ideas;
3.to improve the conditions under which students live;
4.evaluate the current state of affairs.
Second, the organization of students' unions is not always appropriate. Students are able to unite their powers and interests and clear up what they want. Unfortunately, they cannot always introduce their demands and requirements in an appropriate ways. They cannot choose the necessary tone and methods to prove their rights, and the results of such discontents are numerous strikes, discussion, and quarrels.
Finally, students' organizations are not always controlled by grown ups. This is why it is difficult to comprehend students' thoughts and correct them if necessary. Too much independence may negatively influence students' understanding of the reality. This is why it is crucially important to create appropriate conditions under which students' unions may be properly developed.
This is why it is wrong to ban the development of such organizations but still it is important to elaborate many aspects.
