Study Plan For Pmp Certification Exam

In this article I am going to give you a general idea that how you should prepare for the PMP Certification Exam

. Please note that everybody has his own style of studying and you are free to follow your own style. In this article I will give a general idea about the preparation plan and try to make sure that you do not miss anything or gave extra attention to any particular area ignoring other.

Step-1: Collect all information about the PMP Certification exam including syllabus, PMP exam preparation reference books, online study materials, questions bank etc.

Step-2: Become a PMI and join your local PMI chapter. Attend their meetings and seminars. By doing this you will get a chance to meet personally many certified PMPs and you can get their lesson learned and guidance. Moreover; it will also motivate you and boost your enthusiasm.

Step-3: Start studying any PMP exam preparation reference books and finish it. Once you get the general idea about the concepts, go to the PMBOK Guide and read it thoroughly. Don't jump directly to the PMBOK Guide. The PMBOK Guide is a very dry book. If you start your study from reading it, you may feel bore and you may faint. Therefore, it would be best for you if you study other resources before going for the PMBOK Guide.

Step-4: Now enroll for 35 contact hours training program with any PMI approved Registered Education Provider (REP). There will be many of you who may not agree with me on this sequence; i.e. they want to join the training first then planned to study. As per me, this is a wrong approach. You should have at-least a general idea about what you are going to be trained. You should know the basic concepts of the project management, you should know the structure of the PMBOK Guide and its input, tool & technique and output. If you join the training without having read the reference book and the PMBOK Guide, you may listen many terms and terminology first time and that will puzzled you and you would not be able to enjoy your training.

Step-5: This is an important step. Apply for the PMP Certification Exam and get approval. Once your application is approved, make the payment and proceed to prometric and schedule the exam. Give yourself at-least two to three months to prepare for it. After scheduling the exam date, you have to start study very seriously. Refer at-least two PMP Exam Reference books and read them thoroughly and revise it at-least one time. Read the PMBOK guide at-least three times because in the exam you will find a lot of questions directly from the PMBOK Guide. There is no alternative to it and you have to read it. Try some sample questions from the reference books and give some online simulation test to check your preparation.

Step-6: This is the last step. On you schedule date, go to prometric center at-least 30 min before the actual start of exam time. They will ask you to show some ID proof and exam ID reference number and then you have to read and sign the instruction document. After that your exam will start. Take your time to complete the exam, it is four-hour duration exam and you have to answer 200 questions. This time is enough for it. Take at least one or two break to relax. After completing the exam, review the answers and submit it. If you pass the exam you will get congratulation message and PMI will tell you that you will receive your certificate within 8 weeks and if you failed, PMI will be sorry for that.
