Study Says People Tend To Forget Safety Precautions While Playing In Snow
Winter sports injuries are rampant because people who engage in it fail to meet safety standards and precautions
. According to a study done by Science Daily, the prominent athlete's journal, people are inclined to forget wearing helmets, or kneepads that could cause fatal consequences. Other things that people fail to wear while playing on the snow are wireless heated clothing to maintain the body temperature.
It's rare to see someone wearing a helmet in ski resorts because most places don't even provide proper protective gear. According to the study, head injuries are the most serious ones when it comes to winter sports. It says that each year, thousands of children and adults are admitted to emergency rooms because of winter-sports related injuries.
Wearing helmets ultimately prevents this problem. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons say that "it is important to remember that helmets worn in conjunction with all winter sports may help prevent far more devastating consequences".
Another factor contributing to the hazardous nature of winter sports is the harsh and cold weather. When the body decreases its temperature, the body loses its motor skills as a result; hence the reaction of shivering and numbness occur. These kinds of reactions are not helpful while on the slopes, and could cause accidents because these athletes need their active limbs to maneuver throughout the snow.
Wearing wireless heated clothing prevents accidents caused by nerve ending numbness because it retains the body's temperature and even elevates it in times of extreme coldness. Another benefit one can get from wearing heated gear is the increased cardiovascular activities that all athletes need. The heat dilates the capillaries and stimulates the blood flow. It also promotes the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the most vital parts of the body--like limbs and the upper body.
Wearing wireless heated clothing, helmets, knee pads, and other protective gear are only a portion of the proper precaution to prevent winter sports injuries. One should also have a sharp mind in order to be able to deliver proper tactics under inconsiderate weather conditions.
