Lexus has revealed, at the Geneva Motor Show, a new hybrid in the compact class, the CT 200h, a full hybrid based on the LF-Ch concept car unveiled at the Frankfurt show in 2009. The car features a 1.8-liter four-cylinder variable valve timing petrol engine and a magnet synchronous electric motor.

Lexus has not yet revealed complete performance details, but they do say that the motor is powerful. Nickel metal hydride batteries are used to deliver the high voltage required for propulsion. This is a front wheel drive car and the power is delivered to the front wheels via an electrically controlled continuously variable transmission, or E-CVT for short.

The car retains the original configuration of the show car, a very sleek five-door. The front and back overhangs hint at sporty and there is a very smartly placed rear spoiler. The car is to have LED rear lighting, now becoming a very common occurrence in the new cars being manufactured.

The dimensions of the car are: 4,320 mm long, this car is 140 mm shorter than the Toyota Prius. The Lexus is 1,765 mm wide by 1,430 mm high; 20 mm x 50 mm less than the Prius. The car is shod with 17-inch alloy wheels, and features McPherson / front and double wishbone rear suspension.

The small Lexus employs the Lexus Hybrid Drive which is a refinement of the original Toyota Hybrid System used in the 1997-2003 Toyota Prius. With the advent of the second generation of this system, the name was changed for its use in vehicles outside the Toyota brand. Lexus employs the HSD derived systems used in its vehicles and termed it Lexus Hybrid Drive. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system has since been famed for its increase in vehicle power as well as environmental and efficiency benefits

It gave a tough competition to other cars and fought with A1 by Audi to maintain its position. Audi started advertising the A1 as a car with first premium; Lexus CT200h came out with first complete hybrid vehicle. In no time, it caught the attention of several people all over the world, with its stunning and modern style.

Lexus wants to use this car to showcase that full hybrids do not have to be slow and boring cars to drive. They claim the car has superior handling agility to suit their customers' wishes, and three driving modes; Eco, Normal, and Sport to adjust to varying situations.
