Style ideas for the party season
As the long dark nights and cold winter weather starts to set in, there's one bit of compensation for this winter misery and that's the party season! Whether it's a Christmas party or a celebration of the New Year, winter offers plenty of opportunities to get dressed up and look your best. To help you look fabulous at your next celebration here are some style ideas for the party season.
1920s decadence
What better style inspiration for the party season than the 1920s? Cocktails, swing music, flappers and more all helped to make the 1920s the decade for dances and parties. There are lots of ways in which you can channel 1920s decadence in your party outfit. When choosing a party dress opt for knee length straight dresses with a dropped waist. Fringing and ruffled details on the skirt will help to achieve the 1920s look, as will beaded detail. Headbands are a big look this season so go for a velvet or beaded headband to complete the vintage style. To help ensure you can dance the night away it's a good idea to go for a mid or low heal as these look 1920s and anything taller will begin to get uncomfortable after a few dances.
1970s glamour
The 1970s are a great source for design inspiration this season. The glamorous look of 1970s chic makes it a great style for the winter party season. Long sleek maxi dresses with plunging necklines look stunning and can be dressed up with long necklaces and chunky gold bangles. Asymmetric one shoulder maxi dresses can make excellent party wear, and for a distinctively 70s look opt for one with frills around the top. High strappy shoes go well with this 1970s style as do chunky wedges.
Feathers
Feathers are a daring choice but one worth making as they can really add distinction to a party outfit. If you want an all out party look then go for a dress that has a skirt made out of feathers, or one that includes feather detailing around the collar or sleeves. If that sounds like too much then feather accessories are a good alternative. You can find feather clutch bags in a wide range of colours and feather hair accessories are also easy to get hold of. For something a bit different, see if you can track down a pair of shoes with feathers on the toes or completely covering the shoes.
Black
You really can't go wrong with a little black dress. It's something worth investing in and getting the best you can afford as a black party dress will last you for seasons to come. This winter lace is a very on trend fabric so you could opt for a little black lace cocktail or shift dress. For something a bit more glamorous you could go for a black sequined dress as this will shimmer and shine and look really chic at any party.
