Styling Tips For Short Thick Hair

. Bob and the pixie cut are the two classic short hairstyles for short hair.

Bobs

You can avoid the traditional bob, if your hair is thick. Cutting a lot of shorter layers on top and around your face help to thin your hair and give it shape and texture. Run volumizing mousse through your hair to style a layered bob. Apply from root to tip while it's damp and blow dry until it's mostly dry. Then use a round brush with your blow dryer to flip the ends out while drying your hair. Use a large-barrel curling iron on the ends, if you want more of a flip. Complete the style with a hairspray.

You can also wear a bob without creating too much volume, by wearing it longer in the front than in the back. Various lengths in your hair add contrast and shape to your hairstyle. To give even more contrast, use a flat iron on the longer sections of hair in the front and a gel on the short sections in the back. This makes them to stick out from your head and this style is edgy and easy to pull off without making your hair look sparse.

Pixie Cuts

Ask your hairstylist to cut the sides of your hair short and jagged, with piecey layers at the top of your head and full, irregular bangs. Use mousse evenly throughout your hair to style this cut. Do this when it's damp and blow it dry, using a brush to angle the hair on the crown of your head toward your forehead. To define them better, use your fingers to pinch the ends of your choppy layers together.

The pixie cut appears well on curly hair. Use a deep conditioner once a week to keep your thick curls from puffing. Run a mixture of styling cream and curl-defining gel through your hair to style the pixie, while it's damp and let your hair air dry, or blow dry with a diffuser. This will keep your curls from frizzing.
