Succeeding, Perseverance, Finding Fulfillment – The Key To Success in Making Dreams Come True

Succeeding, Perseverance, Finding Fulfillment The Key To Success in Making Dreams Come True

Anybody who has a passion for something surely also longs for success. I'm beginning to see that the key to success has two parts to it. First there is the achievement of doing what you are passionate about; getting pleasure from it and finding fulfillment. Then there is the success of being noticed by the world, being acknowledged, and earning money with it. Whatever the theories, I'm sure that succeeding, perseverance they go hand in hand when it comes to making dreams come true.

I wrote a novel the way I wanted to, and it was rejected by about 10 publishers. I kind of gave up, believing that I would not be able to earn if I was true to myself. Then I found a publisher who loved it. She said she could see I would be one of those writers who would not need any editing. She was very complimentary. I was over the moon. It was happening to me!

But two of her readers had not liked the book. She was nervous to trust her own gut and thought I should make some adjustments even though she did not agree with her readers. My alarm bells went off but I ignored them.

The short version is that I spent 8 months trying to please people who could not agree on what should be done. I met the editor in the supermarket one day and she looked so embarrassed and I knew. It was over. I'd spent 8 months of twisting myself and my book into something so foreign it was not even mine any more. And for nothing!

One of the readers who rejected my book hated it and wrote a vitriolic report, which I couldn't even read at first. After a while though I pulled out every nasty word she had used and put them together in a paragraph. Then I realized that none of it was about my book, it was about her. I gave my book to somebody else to read, and she brought it back to me with tears streaming down her face. "This book has changed my life" she said.

It was a big learning curve. Adapting doesn't necessarily bring success in the world. So what does? Jim Carey said success has very little to do with how talented you are. It has everything to do with how much you believe in yourself, how persistent you can be, and how smart you are with the marketing. I agree with him.

If you have a passion for something, and your dream is to be successful in the world, I believe it's really important not to adapt to what you believe the market wants. You lose your passion if you do that. I think it's better to do what you love, and get real smart about how you put yourself and what you do in front of the world.
