Success Barriers - Your Greatest Deceiver

Success Barriers - Your Greatest Deceiver

Have you ever heard that lack of capital is the most common of all success barriers? Whoever said that quite frankly is wrong. Lack of capital is one of many success barriers that shouldn't be a reason for failure at all. It is simply an excuse. Justification and excuses are the leading cause of failure, and all other obstacles are merely a symptom of this problem.

You may be asking how I can be so confident in that statement. The reason is because I have witnessed plenty of people who have succeeded in business who didn't have any capital at all. Instead of using money as an excuse, they chose to find a way despite their circumstances.

Why Excuses Are The Root Of All Success Barriers

Excuses are an easy way to justify why you can't accomplish something. Think about it. When things get tough, and it seems all you see in front of you is obstacles and challenges, what do most people do? They find a reason why it can't be done and they quit. Since they were faced with so many obstacles or success barriers, their decision to quit is justified. When you justify your decision, you are now free from the responsibility of your decision. You don't have to feel guilty about it.

Lack of anything whether it is money, skills, contacts, support, training, etc. are not success barriers. The real barrier is using the lack as your excuse. All of the perceived success barriers can be overcome when you decide to seek ways to get past them, instead of allowing them to defeat you. This is the major difference between people who succeed and people who fail. Successful people don't make excuses, they overcome. Those who fail do so because they face a challenge, call it a barrier, and use it as their reason for failure.

Common Excuses False Success Barriers

Most of us are conditioned to believe our own excuses rather than finding the will to get past our reasons for not winning. We have been conditioned to live in mediocrity. Let me prove it to you. Do any of these sound familiar to you?

* I don't have enough time

* I don't have enough money

* I don't have the right personality to do that

* I am uneducated

* I don't know how to do it

* That's just not me

* I am not computer literate

* I need to think things over fully first

* I am not good with people

* I hate the phone

* I don't know enough people

* I am not a sales person

* It doesn't work for people like me

* My spouse doesn't believe in it

* My neighbor tried that and it didn't work

* My friend said it won't move in the market

* It's just not meant to be

* I don't know where to start

* I couldn't find the right information

* I don't know the right people

* I don't have a mentor

* I'll try again some day

* Something always gets in the way

* It's not the right time

You've probably heard some of the above excuses more than once, or said them yourself. Now let's blow these out of the water. Let's say you are approached by a wealthy and credible person. They make you an irresistible offer. He tells you he has an investment that will guarantee you a major return. All you have to do is come up with $5,000 and approximately 10 hours a week for the next six months. In return he will personally guarantee you a check for $100,000 at the end of the six month period. It's legal and it's in writing.

Even if you could claim 75% of the above excuses, I bet you'd suddenly be compelled to overcome them. You would do what it takes to find the money, the time, and get over the perceived success barriers. Why would your success barriers no longer matter? Your level of desire just increased because of one simple word...guaranteed. If you are now trying to justify your decision by the level of risk, you can stop now. It's not the risk that compels or deters people; it is desire or lack of.

Overcoming Success Barriers Means Getting Over Your Own Excuses

You can either continue to find reasons why not, or you can decide to identify your success barriers as excuses and move forward. So many people settle for less, give up on their business, or retreat in the face of adversity for this one simple reason. An excuse is a well planned lie, plain and simple. So how do you overcome excuses? Desire and determination is the answer.

You will only succeed if you have a burning desire in you to do what it takes. Your level of desire determines how you approach challenges and whether or not you give in to your excuses. Just like the example of the guaranteed six figure check, obstacles are removed when your belief and desire increases. You must believe in your dreams, believe they are possible, and focus on what you desire most. Don't worry about your perceived success barriers, because when you focus on what you want, the how will present itself.
