Success Depends on what you Neglect

Many people start the new year with a list of things they want to achieve, goals they would like to reach or people they would like to catch up with.

How can we do those things, when there are so many interruptions? Like the old saying goes: "How can I soar with the eagles, when I'm surrounded by turkeys."

They say that at the start of the year, gymnasiums are full. That's all the people who had a New Year's resolutions to be trim, taught and terrific. But things got in the way, there were phone calls to answer, and your favourite TV shows, and of course you had to go and check out the fridge for something to eat. And you have to hang out with friends. Then all of a sudden, you realise that you've let your gym membership lapse.

Let's look at the other side of the coin then. If we would like to achieve something this year, if you would like to start something, have something, do something, learn something or be something. Then you have to consciously neglect the unimportant. You have to realise that there are forces that will try to keep you from attaining those goals.

Having recognised the "time wasters" you need to make a commitment to get rid of them. So in a sense, it's not just about having a balanced "to-do" list, but also knowing about what not to-do! When you strategize for a football game, you not only have to focus on your play, but also on the counter-play as you face your opponent.

It's like wanting to have a nice lawn. Not only do you have to fertilise it, water it and mow it. But you also have to get rid of the weeds!

So what good things are you going to say NO to, in order to say YES to the best things?
