Successful Tips for Organising Kid's Rooms
Successful Tips for Organising Kid's Rooms
Really, this is a lesson for us all on how not to become a personal maid. As the parent, we have to take control in organising kid's rooms. Their rooms are often overlooked. Their toys, clothes etc are usually spread throughout the bedroom, on the floor and any other available surface, while the rest of the home is tidy.
When we give the order to, "Tidy your room", do we really understand how difficult it could be for them to do this request? We assume the just because we do the tidying up that everyone else in the house knows what to do. You have to consider the problem from their perspective.
We need to teach them to take care of their own things.
Here are some ideas to make the task easier:
1 Can they reach the coat hangers to hang up their clothing? If not put a lower rail or hooks up so your children can reach. Now they can easily hang up not only clothes but bags, hats, scarves, you name it.
2 Do they know where to put dirty clothes? Often not! You have always cleared the dirty clothes off their floor and bed. Have a laundry bag in their room at-least, so they can put their own clothing in for you to collect.
3 How often have you growled at your children to make their beds? Can they physically do this? Choose simple bedding for them. Now show each child how to make their bed and watch them do it at least once.
4 Toys, honestly, modern children seem to have so many! They are played with, and then abandoned in their bed and on the floor. A tidy-up effort usually means they are all put inside one large box. This simply means the next time your child wants a particular toy; the whole box is emptied out. Have clear plastic stackable boxes that are easy to pack and open for groups of toys. For example, colouring in books, crayons paints, pens can all be in one; trains cars trucks in another; books stacked in a separate box and so on. Try to encourage each child to use each box separately.
5 Pet cages need to be kept clean. This is not always easy for young children and is one area where you or older children could help with weekly.
Make sure your demands are understood and achievable. Make this fun for all, so do not get stressed when things are not done perfectly. Remember praise works wonders. You may need to have rewards like family outings planned, to where each child wants to go.
