Successfully Reaching Your Goals
If you don't have written goals, I'd like to help you get them down and clarified
. What do you want to achieve?
Think of a time in your life when you achieved something you really wanted. Did you doubt it would happen and believe that you could not achieve it? Or did you have a solid sense of knowing that it would happen and doubt never entered into your mind?
You must know that you are going to be successful, before you even begin. Belive that you can't fail. If you know it will happen in advance, you will have the drive and take action and see your dreams and goals becoming reality in your life.
One of the greatest ways to develop this strong feeling is by using visualization.
You currently use the power of visualization, probably without even realising it. Have you ever run through what you are going to say to someone before you have the conversation? Or seen yourself in your mind giving a presentation before you give it?
That is the power of visualization, and it is very potent. You can use it not only for your goals, but for any aspect of your life. Visualisation is something most people are unused to directing. You will find initially that your attention will wander, but you have to pull it back to the task at hand. It is similar to building a muscle up through exercise - it takes time to strengthen it.
Here is how to do it.
The first step is to decide on a goal you want to accomplish.
Then, close your eyes and see it in your mind's eye.
Third, using all of your senses, visualize what your life would be like if you already accomplished it. Make a movie in your head and insert yourself right in there, on the beach, in your new home or whatever. What are you smelling, seeing, hearing, touching etc...
4) Hold this image in your mind for a minimum of 10 minutes - remain focus and positive. Challenge any doubts that rise and replace them with positive words and images of success. If you get distracted or your mind wanders, bring your focus back to your goal.
You can also hold this successful image in your mind as you go about your day to day business. Keep the image there and focus on your success. You get what you focus on - and if you focus on achieving your goal, then you will get it. Visualisation is a method of programming the subconscious mind for success.
Be careful who you share your aspirations with. Perhaps you are trying to get in shape and you mention it to your kids or your spouse. Not meaning to, they may poke fun and cause you to decide that you really are foolish to believe you can make this happen for yourself.
Don't let the discouraging feedback of those around you come into this equation. Keep your goals to yourself. It will be fun to see their reaction and hear their feedback upon seeing you reach those goals. Show them. Don't tell them.
Acknowledging Your Success
Insist on success. One powerful method to take us to our goals faster, is to tell our mind that we will get there over and over. Positive affirmations, repeated, really work. They send a message to that quiet part of our brain that directs us.
An affirmation is a sentence or two that is written in a positive language with definite targets and timescales. A bad affirmation would be "I want to lose some weight." Your subconscious looks at this and since there is no timescale it will not leap into action. There is also no definite target so your subconscious does not know what to aim for. How is "some weight" defined? It is 10 pounds, but also 1 pound and also just 1 ounce.
By writing down clear sentences with time limits, you are instruction your subconscious as to exactly what you want and when you want it by. It will act on this kind of clarity.
Next we must write down the plan or action steps we will take to accomplish the goal we wrote down and instructed our mind on. Then we should divide those action steps into daily actions.
Little Steps
It is okay to have big dreams like wanting to be a millionaire by the age of 40.
This goal is to large for our brain to get around. It may even decrease our belief and motivation level a bit. You doubt it, so you must reduce it into tiny action steps that you can really see yourself taking.
Mega goals are great, but it is important to divide them down unto smaller, realistic goals and assign them action steps to accomplish.
Our mind can grasp the small steps and believe in our ability to get there. These small wins go a long way towards building our belief level.
It is very important to re-read your big and small goals often, preferably every day. Repetition is a key factor in successful goal setting. It helps you adjust your steps and actions and make sure you are doing the things necessary along the way. Keep them with you at all times.
Achieving our goals is something we all want to do, but it involves work. Rarely will they be given to us on a silver platter by a servant on bended knee. Achievement requires Knowing, drive and commitment, combined with careful and meticulous planning and a firm belief in ourselves. With unwavering belief and commitment there is nothing that you cannot achieve. Everything and anything is within your grasp - if you are willing to make the commitment to achieving it.
