Most people who have an online business ultimately own multiple websites and spread their focus over many different ventures. There is still unlimited potential online but competion for the top 1 and 2 spots in the search engines is fierce and those spots are generally controlled by multi-billion dollar companies with monthly advertising budgets that exceed the average small business yearly salary. While it is realtively easy to get to page one in the search engines, going from a google rank of 4 to a rank of 1 could be a fruitless lifelong effort if that is all you focus on.Ironically, you will likely increase your chances of moving from rank 4 to rank 1 by focusing on something else. On the internet, if you have properly cross-linked your network of sites, then it is your entire enterprise that grows together rather than individual sites. Once you've built a site to a satisfactory level that it is self sustaining, then it is time to expand which usually means moving on to a different site. The new site can be an accessory site to your primary site, or it could be completely unrelated. It does not matter as much whether they are related or not; as you build up this new site, you will enjoy another revenue stream while the links from the new site build up the position and search engine rankings of your other sites.After having learned what it takes to succeed online, I started a consulting business focused on enabling others to achieve success online and one of the primary things I tell my clients is to just keep moving. If you've done as much on page optimization as is necessary for your one site, then build another site.
