Suffolk Bid To Be Greenest County With Solar Panels And Other Green Initiatives

The county of Suffolk has recently seen a push for greener and sustainable activities

through the development of community transition groups within the area.

Suffolk is bidding to be the greenest county in England and there are certainly many solar panel projects in Suffolk which will help them towards their bid. Recently district councillors have signed off a project which will see the installation of 232 solar panels on Suffolk farmland. The applicant will use the generated electricity to power their home and also a holiday let on the site with the rest being exported to the national grid.

The number of solar panels in Suffolk has grown exponentially over the last few years primarily thanks to the Feed In Tariff introduced by the government. This allows owners of solar panels to benefit financially from their installation. Not only do they see the costs of their electricity bill decrease but any excess energy generated is put into the national grid and on this energy you will earn a certain amount per kilowatt of energy. It is a great incentive and one which many green minded people have cashed in on.

One resident isnt installing her solar panels in Suffolk for any financial gain but simply because she feels it is the best thing to do for the environment. At 66 years old she has publically said that she will never see the return on investment on her 16 solar panels as others will but as an active participator in her local community transition group she is leading the way in terms of green energy.

The transition groups work together as a community to promote a sustainable future, this includes trying to reduce the use of fossil fuels for energy purposes, minimising waste, recycling and encourage the consumption of local produce. The group recently arranged a swap shop which was a great success. Free of charge members of the community could bring unwanted furniture, rugs, kitchen equipment, childrens toys and china to swap with other people. Anything that was left over was taken to local charity shops. The aim was to reduce the amount of waste going into the local landfill. The group has also undertaken reports on wind and solar energy and are always trying to expand their knowledge into the wider community.

We should be more and more aware of our impact on the environment. Our daily activities will have a major impact on the future of our planet. The Feed In Tariff gives both home owners and businesses a massive incentive to invest in solar panels or wind turbines now. Being green not only has a positive impact on the environment but in the long run it also has a positive impact on your pocket.
