Sugar Bowl Tickets - Projected Participants
The Sugar Bowl is slated to take place in New Orleans at the Superdome on New Year's Day
, Jan. 1, 2010, but it's about time you started thinking about which teams will take the field that day. Week 13 is upon us and the field of possible participants is starting to narrow down to a select few. Who will survive the last few trying weeks of college football to gain admittance to the Sugar Bowl? Will any of these possible teams skip the Sugar Bowl and actually attend the BCS National Championship Game instead? No matter who makes the Sugar Bowl, you had better rush online to get some Sugar Bowl tickets before they are all gone! Now, let's talk about the possible participating teams.
Florida - As it stands on Nov. 22, 2009 the Florida Gators are the No. 1 team in both the BCS rankings and the AP Top 25 Poll. They are a perfect 11-0 with outstanding victories over several tough SEC teams. However, they still have quite a long way to go, if you can believe that. The Gators must beat a decent Florida State team on Thanksgiving, which could be tougher than it looks on paper. The Seminoles always get pumped up for this Sunshine State rivalry. Then-and this is the big deal-the Florida Gators will have to go closer to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to defeat the Crimson Tide in hostile territory to finish out the regular season for the SEC Title Game. So the Gators don't exactly have any easy path to the National Championship game. If they falter, especially in their game against Alabama, the Gators could enter the Sugar Bowl as the representative of the SEC.
Alabama - Alabama's situation is a lot like that of Florida's. This past weekend the Crimson Tide put the hurt on an undermatched Chattanooga team (while Florida picked on a helpless FIU) to remain undefeated. 'Bama is now in the No. 2 spot in the BCS and AP Poll rankings. However, they have to beat one of their biggest rivals, Auburn, on the road, and then beat Florida to keep their perfect record until the close of the season. So the Crimson Tide doesn't exactly have an easy schedule closing out the remainder of the year. If they win out, they could make the BCS Title Game. Lose just once, and they'll play in the Sugar Bowl.
Cincinnati - Cincinnati appears to have the most likely Sugar Bowl trajectory of any Big East team. The Bearcats are currently No. 1 in the Big East Conference standings, and barring a defeat in their final two regular season games, Cincinnati ought to take the top spot in the conference with a perfect 7-0 conference record and a perfect 12-0 overall record. However, Pittsburgh will challenge the Bearcats in the final game of the regular season. If Pitt wins against Cincinnati on Dec. 5, they might share a piece of the conference title and perhaps get an invitation to the Sugar Bowl. The Pittsburgh-Cincinnati game will take place in Pittsburgh, so Cincinnati will have to be at the top of its game.
