Summer Fashions For Gents

It's approaching that time of year when the weather is getting warmer

, the nights are getting longer and you're contemplating getting your summer clothing out. Only problem is, when you unpack your summer attire from their winter hideaways, you notice that some of it is looking tired and out of date. Whilst some classic pieces such as loose fitting tattersall shirts and deck shoes are always in fashion, those Hawaiian shirts should really only be left for holidays or fancy dress occasions.

Cardigans are set to be a staple for men this summer, perfect for those cooler evenings. Whilst such attire may conjure up images of a pipe and slippers, cardigans are now appearing in rock star wardrobes. Stick to greys, blacks and creams, which can be teamed with brighter shirts or tops.

Casual rugby tops and polo shirts are back this summer with vengeance - or stripes. Horizontally striped shirts are already in the shops - opt for wide block stripes for the most flattering look and turn that collar up for a polo player-esque style. Rather than the tighter fitting Lacoste polos of the late eighties and early nineties, this season's shirts are designed to be worn loose and layered with tees.

Team rugby shirts with hard wearing gilets for the ultimate outdoors look, beiges, greens and stones are the most popular colours and can work with most colours. Think a high street version of Bear Grylls for this season, functional yet stylish and masculine.

Trousers-wise, light chino styles and shorts are a must-have. Shorts must be lightweight and fitted for the most flattering look and it goes without saying that they should be teamed with deck shoes or flip flops rather than thick sandals (or socks and sandals dare we say it).

What is most important for gents this summer is to avoid highly seasonal high fashion items that may be a must-not-have by next summer. Buy classic pieces that can be worn on multi-occasions, with quality being the key over quantity.
