Surround Sound Receivers & Home Cinema, Is a System Right for You?
Surround Sound Receivers & Home Cinema, Is a System Right for You
?
I'm a self-confessed music and surround sound receiver buff that has discovered the joy of industry standard movies in my own home. Now that's established the issue is, why do you require a home theater system? After all, isn't home theater nothing more than somewhat improved audio for your TV programs, that don't have for the most part a good quality audio feed anyway?
In the past I would have thought that was correct, but then along came a not inconsequential invention called high-definition TV. Now personally I believe the difference it makes to have a high-definition television is immense, it's tricky to express to a person that hasn't viewed the technology precisely how clear and crisp and altogether more involving the image is.
At first though there were very few channels which utilised the high-definition TVs available, the equipment was in advance of the content. Recently things have changed, regularly the bigger channels will also offer an equivalent in HD, and even the smaller content producers are getting drawn in. Not to mention the manner in which HD ready and full HD TV's are falling in price dramatically, making home cinema setups again more within your means. Take account of Blu-ray and high-quality DVD films and it becomes plain to see that there are many high-definition sources to be had.
So if high-definition material is growing quickly and readily accessible, then unquestionably it stands to reason that if you're viewing films in the best visual quality possible, you want the same quality in your sound.
One of the first things you notice when you visit the cinema, is the wall of sound striking you in peaks and troughs as a storyline unfolds. The sound hitting you from every direction and the dimensions of the large screen. Every bit of this serves to get you fully immersed in the movie. The best way I can describe a home theater installation is to state that if done correctly you are able to experience a comparable frill whilst sat in your own home. No more paying expensive fees at the refreshment stand; just get the entire family on the sofa or invite your mates around for film evening and have the same experience. It's not even anti-social; my kids think it's great to watch a movie with their friends whilst I nuke the popcorn.
A general misconception is that home cinema is expensive and yes, it is if you choose to make it that way. Although the same might be said of any hobby if taken to extremes, such as collecting clay plates or Royal Dalton, the second being considerably more expensive. A large number reasonably priced systems are available to the savvy consumer these days, starting with below $200 comprehensive home theater in a box type systems, which consist of surround sound receivers and multi-channel speakers in one package. Individual parts that allow you to tailor a system to your exact needs are again very reasonably priced. Companies like Marantz, Harmon Kardon and Bose have extensive ranges to suit most budgets. The point being made is that it's not unreasonably expensive these days; consequently do not let costs alone make your decision.
So we have established it's not super expensive, you most likely possess a compatible television and you can have excellent times socially. Give home theater a spin; once the choice is made you're unlikely to be sorry.
