Surviving An Affair - 3 Stages To Recovery

Surviving an affair can seem like an insurmountable problem, especially when you've

just found out that the one you love is a cheater and maybe even worse!

You are devastated and no one ever taught you how to deal with the infidelity of a

spouse. There is no marriage manual handed out at the altar and even if there was,

it wouldn't cover surviving an affair.

So what do you do now? There are 3 stages or phases you will need

to work through to recover from and survive the hurt and pain of infidelity.

The good news is that you can survive an affair and you can be happy again!

Stage 1: Dealing With Your Pain Comes First

You can't start the healing process or even the forgiving process until you first

deal with the pain and trauma that you are experiencing.

You must take care of yourself first or you won't be able to take care of anything or

anyone else. that you may need to.

Surviving an affair will require you to confront and handle all of the negative thoughts and emotions, issues of trust, images of your spouse with someone else, and any self doubts.

Stage 2: Communication And Healing Together

After you have dealt with yourself first, you must come together and effectively communicate

with your spouse.

You must be able to discuss all the issues that concern you in order to move

on to healing.

You may have a lot of anger and your spouse may feel very self conscious about what they have done.

But you must communicate to feel some sense of trust that you are both committed to surviving an affair and to saving and rebuilding the relationship.

Stage 3: Relationship Reconstruction and Solidification

Once your communications become positive instead of angry outbursts and accusations, you will be ready to start reconstruction and solidifying your marriage or relationship.

Your goal is to clean the slate and recreate a stronger relationship with clear cut and well defined rules of conduct.
