Sweet Tips To Pick The Perfect Prom Dress Part 1

HELPING YOUR DAUGHTER PICK THE PERFECT PROM DRESS

Remember how vitally important that prom dress seemed to you back in the day? It might seem like no big deal now, but let's be honest, what is prom without a little competition about who has the best dress? How do you help your daughter pick out a dress that she will love? There are a few important things to consider.

1. Body shape and size.

2. Hair color and skin complexion.

3. Modesty preferences.

4. Current trends and styles.

5. Uniqueness.

Body Shape & Size:

So many girls these days face tough pressure to be rail thin. This is an unfortunate and unrealistic expectation for girls to have to live up to. Help your daughter pick a dress that will compliment her body shape and make her feel like a million bucks.

For pear and apple shaped bodies, it's best to go with something fitted on top that flows down in an A-line, or dresses that has an empire waist will usually go best. Emphasizing the thinnest part of the body just underneath the bust-line is visually stunning and beautifully deceptive.

For taller girls, a longer evening gown type dress can make a girl feel less self conscious about her height.

For petite girls, something above the knee is a must to make it appear that her legs are as long as Julia Roberts.

For the voluptuous and full figured girl, halter top dresses with an empire waist work nicely. By emphasizing the top with something fitted, and then letting the rest flow smoothly down in an A line, the eyes are brought to your daughter's face, which, let's be honest, is probably one of her most stunning features.

For extremely thin girls, mermaid dresses look nice, as well as dresses that hang a little more loosely, giving the illusion of more curves. Try out different neck lines, waist lines, etc. Remember, what it looks like on the hanger is NEVER what it looks like on, so if your daughter is eyeing it, make sure she tries it on! Otherwise, as a parent, you will never hear the end of prom dress buyer's remorse, how awful!
