Swimmer's ear occurs when your ears have been in the water for long periods of time.

When the human body is functioning at peak efficiency, the ears have a slightly acidic balance and they are able to combat bacterial infections.

Treatments for Swimmers Ear:

Prevention is the best course of action. Seek medical advice if you notice you are having difficulty expelling debris, water, and wax from your ears or you are experiencing ear infections. Also, check with your doctor if you notice any deterioration in your hearing.

Ethyl alcohol - Ethyl alcohol not only kills germs, it also helps the water trapped in the ear to evaporate.

Garlic and olive oil - Heat the garlic and add five teaspoon of olive oil. Let it cool for about ten minutes and use it as eardrops. Same as the vinegar, it contains anti bacterial properties.

Drying your ears after water exposure will help to prevent swimmer's ear. However, if you are a susceptible individual, consider one of the following treatments once your ears have been dried.

You need to mix water with white vinegar in equal proportions and drop it into your ear. You can even use alcohol instead of water as this will remove the infection completely by using these home remedies for ear infection. But if you are having a bacterial infection, vinegar will cause the wrong effects. So take care in what you do.

You can use the hair dryer to evaporate the water molecules in the ear. You should set it to warm and sway it across the ear as it blow dries your ear.

If you have an earwax jam, try 3-4 drops of palm-warmed mineral oil or glycerin earwax solution for a few days to soften up the wax. Follow with gentle flushing of warm water and/or hydrogen peroxide over a basin to run the wax out. No Q-tips or pointed objects: You'll push the wax back or even puncture your eardrum.

Heat 2 garlic cloves after removing its skin removed in two spoons of mustard oil till the garlic starts turning black. Sieve it and put 2-3 drops of this oil in the ear.

Ear drops are usually prescribed by your pediatrician. These drops are antibiotics, when used right, will kill the bacterial infection.

Mild cases of swimmer's ear usually resolve in 7 to 10 days. It's a lot simpler, however, just to keep water out of the ear (with bathing caps or ear plugs) and avoid ever getting infected. Rinsing the ear with the vinegar solution may also prevent infection or flare-ups of earlier disease.
