Sydney is renowned for its beautiful beaches, waterways and surf culture. When the warm weather hits, Sydneysiders and visitors migrate to the water's edge. Sydney's most popular and famous beaches - such as Manly and Bondi - are magnets for tourists and locals alike and can be so crowded it becomes difficult to find a spare spot on the sand.

Luckily, there are a number of Sydney beaches that remain largely undiscovered, and can be a haven in the summer months from the throngs of beach goers. These uncrowded and undiscovered beaches are often harbour beaches that are savoured and enjoyed by locals.

If you like peace, quiet and getting away from the crowds, then aim for these Sydney beaches this summer. If you're visiting Sydney , take the opportunity to get off the well trodden tourist path and seek out some secret Sydney spots. If you're staying in Sydney accommodation, you won't be far from these hidden gems.

- Milk Beach, Vaucluse. Milk Beach is flanked by Nielsen Park to the North and is home to Strickland House. With incredible views of the Harbour Bridge, the city skyline and Rose Bay it's the perfect beach for a picnic or secluded beach day. To get there make your way to the end of the track behind Strickland House on Vaucluse Road and follow it down through the trees.

- Gordon's Bay. Nestled between popular Coogee and Clovelly Beaches, Gordon's Bay is a secluded cove that can be accessed via the coastal walk, located south of Clovelly Beach and north of Coogee Beach. Gordon's Bay is one of Sydney's best popular dive spots. The bay is protected by an offshore reef, making the beach perfect for basking in the sun, swimming, snorkelling and diving in the tranquil waters.

- Lady Martin's Beach, Point Piper. If you like the idea of having a beach to yourself, then this is the one for you! Accessible only by a narrow lane that passes beside the exclusive Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club off Wolseley Road, Lady Marin's Beach is nestled in Felix Bay between Point Piper and Woollahra Point.

- Redleaf Pool and Seven Shillings Beach, Double Bay. Accessed through the Woollahra Municipal Council, you could drive busy New South Head road every day and not know Redleaf Pool exists. Popular with locals in summer, Seven Shillings Beach has a tidal enclosure Redleaf pool with a pontoon. This beach is popular with all age groups and a favourite with locals in the summer. There is also a grassy area and a cafe.

With a spectacular harbour and a stunning coastline, there are no shortages of Sydney beaches to choose from. And, no matter where in the city you live or where you find accommodation, in Sydney a beach is never far away.
