TGEG Supports the Tree 500 Movement, Reforestation of Marikina Watershed
True Green Energy Group ( TGEG ) , the promoters of world power and green technologies joined the Tree 500 Movement for the reforestation of Marikina Water Shed last October 23, 2010. TGEG Corporate President Chariza Lazaro and Corporate President Asst. Maria Luna Albofera represented the company for the said activity. The tree planting was held at Calawis Bridge, one of the water systems of Marikina Watershed that was totally devastated during the typhoon "Ondoy" last year. It was just one of the water systems that need rehabilitation to restore the forests in Marikina and to secure the people living within the area.
The Tree 500 movement is a tree planting project led by EX-LINKEVENTS. The project aims to plant a minimum of five hundred trees in Marikina Watershed every three months which has started last August 28, 2010. By reforesting the Marikina Water Shed it will eventually improve the capacity of the area to secure rainfall water thereby decreasing the chances of floods at the same time improving water supply for Metro Manila. The mission of this movement is not only for the greening of Marikina Watershed but also to encourage, to engage and to support individuals and businesses in taking responsibility for the environment.
It is no longer new to us that water shortages, drought and flooding are only some of the impacts of global warming, tree planting is just one of the activities that we can do to mitigate the effects of global warming. We must commit our support and actions toward saving and restoring our environment before it is too late. Visit www.spectrumbluesteel.com for more information on how to get involved.
Other organizations that are taking the initiatives for the greening of Marikina Watershed are Manila Water, Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE), the Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF), Earthday Network Philippines, Education for Life Foundation, the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), National Power Corp., Fostering People's Education, Empowerment and Enterprise (FPE3), Meralco, UCPB Foundation, Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Society, Smart, Haribon Foundation, Mga Anak ni Inang Daigdig, Kalingap Marikina Watershed, True Foundation, the PLDT-Smart Foundation, Antipolo LGU, DENR, and the Diocese of Antipolo.
