Dragon's Den star James Caan has said that people who complete plumbing courses will always be in demand. The Business entrepreneur wrote in the Daily Telegraph that the future is bright for people entering the plumbing industry as they are unlikely to face the same job uncertainties during recessions as office workers.James Caan, the founder and chief executive of Hamilton Bradshaw, went onto say that plumbers can feel more secure as their jobs are unlikely to be outsourced and they can usually enjoy a long career and work until a mature age.The Dragon advised a plumbing apprentice, who is finding it hard to secure employment, to try and get a job which will help him get the appropriate accredited NVQ qualification.James Caan told the plumbing apprentice that is was acceptable to work without pay for a short time period but to eventually ask for a salary as employers do not have the right to hire free labour just because of the current economic climate. The notgoingtouni website has advised apprentice plumbers to expect a physically demanding job which will see them working in a range of different environments and situations.Plumbing apprentices must also be willing to follow safety instructions and be able to work effectively in a team and by themselves.Being dexterous is an advantage as plumbing is a practical career with numerous tools and machinery and an understanding of technology and engineering principles is essential for those wanting to become a prize plumber. The website also said that apprentice plumbers can expect a starting salary between 17,000 and 21,000 once they are fully trained.A number of apprentice plumbers and electricians were recently honoured by City of London livery companies, which have represented tradesmen in England since the Middle Ages. The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) joined forces with City & Guilds and the Worshipful Company of Plumbers to award nine certificates in the areas of apprentice, journeyman and master plumber.CIPHE operations director Kevin Wellman said: "We are delighted to be able to present the new apprentice and journeyman certificates to those who have chosen a career in plumbing.""One of the main functions of our Institute is to drive up standards and encourage continuing professional development, and these young men and women will help lead the way for tomorrow's plumbing and heating professionals."Jamie Cade, Lee Cripps and Luke Stockwell were awarded with the apprentice plumber certificates.
