So how do we tip for AFL? There are many tipping competitions that people can enter for free. Some companies like to run their own and pool some money together and see who tips the best. I have currently joined a tipping competition with Sportsbet. I'm not doing too bad and have been averaging over 5 correct tips each round.

There are teams that have been playing very well the past few years and there are teams that are playing poorly. This year in 2010 Richmond hasn't been playing so well and so hasn't Adelaide. Statistics are what a lot of tippers base their tips on. Sometimes it is just gut feeling. Everyone has their own way of tipping who will win. There is no correct way but in most of the cases Sport betting agencies have odds for each team in each game and usually you can tell from the odds who is the favourite.
When I tip, I like to see if the teams are playing at home or away. Normally when a team plays at home they have a slight advantage over the other team. When the crowd is with you and cheering for you, you seem to play a lot better. Footy teams love a great crowd and sometimes players of a footy team just love showing off.
I also like to look at their current form and how they have played in their past games. If they have played a great previous few games, their form normally stays the same game to game. This year Richmond and Adelaide aren't playing so well, so each week I tip against them. Geelong and Collingwood are playing like champions so I would tip for them.
I also base my tips on how many good players are injured in a team. If a team has a lot of players injured and they are amazing key players then I would usually tip against them. There are a lot of deciding factors when it comes to tipping. I have my own way of tipping and you should too.
Footy tipping is done by many Australians and many people don't miss a single round of tipping once they get started for that year. Footy really is a sport that defines Australia's culture.
