Table Tennis Video and Video Games

Are you all worn out from a hard day of playing table tennis

? That doesn't mean you don't want to sit down, relax, and play some table tennis video games! That's right, the age old sport from the 1800s has gone digital.

Tennis for two is considered by many as the first video game. It was created in 1958 on an oscilloscope. Many people are sure to remember one of the very first tennis games to go mainstream. It was introduced on the Atari system and was called Pong. This very simple game enjoyed great commercial success. Pong had become such a cultural phenomenon that it is still referenced in TV shows. "That 70's Show" featured an entire episode dedicated to the game, and other TV shows such as "King of the Hill" and "Saturday Night Live" have all had bits about the once revolutionary game.

A modern day video game featuring table tennis is for the Nintendo Wii system. The original sports title had a very simplistic version, and the newest game, Wii Sports Resort, has a more graphically rich version. The Wii version of the table tennis video game is better for your health than the average game that simply requires finger movements, as the Wii is interactive and responds to whole body movements. Many feel it is the closest to playing the real sport that you can get without a table.

Another up-to-date video game version was originally released for the Xbox 360 and comes from the game publishers known as RockStar Games. It features stunningly life like graphics and a ton of fun play. It is now available for the Nintendo Wii system. It too takes advantage of the Wii's fun motion controls.

Kicking it back old school style there were a number of table tennis based games for the original Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo (also called the SNES). Some of these table tennis video games were called Smash Table Tennis, Super Tennis, Escape from Pong among others.

Yes, table tennis is such a popular sport that people still want to play video game versions. Nothing can substitute for the real thing, however. There is something physically and mentally exhilarating about real table tennis. Be sure you are getting plenty of real practice time on a regulation size table. Improve your game by learning new techniques and watching the pros. Professional training may give you an edge that will help you beat the competition in and off the video game courts.

Why not look into a real table tennis video? These DVDs have professionals giving tips and showing players how to take on the best grips and stances. There are many excellent videos available for purchase online.
