1. You know the rules; follow them. You've most likely been provided with an easy to follow list of rules or guidelines. Follow them! You chose your diet plan based on the rules; whether you realized it or not. What are you even doing "on a diet" if you're not going to follow the rules?

2. Finish what you've started. Complete the entire diet. There are very few diets that are entirely open ended. There is almost always a time limit or another quantifiable limit of some sort. Make sure that whatever the "end" is...you reach it. If it's two weeks...then stick to it for the two weeks. If it's 6 months...then stick to it for 6 months. If it's 15 pounds...then stick to it until you lose 15 pounds. Not following it through to completion fails to give the diet the chance to fully provide you with the promised weight loss.


3. Make changes as necessary. Change your bad habits; adjust your lifestyle. This can be quite difficult, but it is what will make your weight loss stay off for the long run. So it's an important part of the whole. It's easier if the dieter is on a diet plan that teaches positive eating habits that can stick with them after the diet is completed. Some diets also provide some positive cooking habits that can aid dieters with maintenance.

So if you're a negative thinker because you haven't ever actually succeeded at dieting...quit it! Get back in there and find the diet that will actually provide you with the results that you need.
