It runs through the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin and served as a valuable trade and transport route to the greater vicinity in the early colonisation of the Americas.

Today Lake Michigan is a haven for leisure activities such as fishing and boating. In addition the river plays an important part in supplying the neighbouring states with their primary water supply and ensuring the stability of the local ecosystems.

A popular tourist attraction on Lake Michigan is a speed boat ride across its deep blue waters. Once the preserve of the wealthy, new tour companies have emerged thanks to the invention of a special type of speed boat that can fit large groups of people but maintain the stability and speed of its smaller brethren.
