If you have a luxury car like a Lexus or a Mercedes you need to know just what your car needs as far as gas type and oil grade goes. Never put low quality gas in a high end car. If something does go wrong you'll need to find a mechanic who knows how to work on your particular car because some mechanics say they know how to fix luxury cars but they really just want your money. Keep special care to get regular oil changes from skilled professionals and make sure all tire rotations and transmission flushes are done regularly.

If you own a diesel engine car you'll want to educate yourself about care for your car. A diesel engine runs and drives differently then other cars so make sure you know how to handle your vehicle on and off roads. If you need repairs take your car to a diesel specialist. Most parts are pretty expensive and if you need something like a new diesel particulate filter or something like that you'll want to go to a mechanic who knows were to get reasonably priced parts. Diesels do get great gas mileage so it may make up for the price of the parts.

If you own a moderately priced compact or sedan, you'll have less of a headache with maintenance and up keep than those who own luxury cars or diesel engines. Don't get lazy with up-keep though if you think your car doesn't need regular maintenance. Every car needs clean oil and quality gas. That doesn't mean you have to put premium in your Toyota Corolla or Nissan Sentra on every fill up, it just means that you'll want to buy gas from well respected stations. Figure out what kind of gas works best for your car and then make sure everything is running smoothly. A little preventative maintenance will save you lots in the end.

Whether you drive a Lexus or a Taurus make sure you do what it takes to keep your car running for years to come. There's no better peace of mind than knowing your car is in top shape and will get you where you need to go safely and without problems.
